John Ternus and Apple silicon
Apple silicon is the company's own processors. Johny Srouji has long led that work. John Ternus led Hardware Engineering, the organization that puts those chips into Macs and other products. They are related jobs, not the same job.
Two hardware empires
People search "John Ternus Apple silicon" because Macs changed underneath his SVP years. The M-series transition is one of the largest technical shifts in the company's recent history.
Apple's April 2026 Cook retrospective credits the company, under Cook, with moving to Apple-designed silicon. It does not say Ternus designed the M1. It does say Ternus's Mac hardware work helped the Mac become more powerful and more popular, and it names MacBook Neo.
WIRED and the New York Times, covering the succession, noted Srouji's promotion to chief hardware officer — a title that, in their telling, folds more hardware under the silicon leader as Ternus becomes CEO.
What "led the transition" can mean
Secondary articles sometimes write that Ternus "led" or "oversaw" the Mac's move to Apple silicon. In organizational English that can mean:
- His hardware teams redesigned logic boards, thermal systems, batteries, and enclosures around new chips
- He was the executive who had to ship Macs on the new architecture on calendar
It does not automatically mean he ran CPU microarchitecture. This site uses the narrower meaning unless Apple publishes a broader one.
Why the distinction matters for search
Search engines and answer engines collapse "hardware" into one blob. Apple's own leadership list does not. Srouji and Ternus both appear there. Treating them as one person would be a factual error.

Why this distinction is an SEO page, not a nitpick
If this site wrote "Ternus built Apple silicon," it would be easy to rank and wrong. Wrong entity claims get corrected by people who actually work in chip design, and they get copied by language models. The useful page is the one that says: silicon leader (Srouji) and product-hardware leader (Ternus) both exist, they both appear on Apple's leadership list, and the Mac transition needed both.
That is also why this URL is not merged into the Mac article. "Apple silicon" is a different search intent from "MacBook Neo."
